DHANGGATI Grammar and Dictionary With Dhanggati Stories

Embark on a linguistic journey with our comprehensive Dhanggati Dictionary, a vital resource for the revitalisation and educational endeavors of the Dhanggati language. Originating from the Macleay Valley along the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Dhanggati was traditionally spoken up to the late 1960s. In an effort to keep the language alive, the Dhanggati community is passionately reclaiming and teaching their native tongue, with this grammar and dictionary as a cornerstone of their cultural revival.

Carefully curated to include plain language explanations alongside descriptive linguistic details, this dictionary facilitates a deeper understanding for all levels of language learners. Its additional features include identifying the original speakers when possible, including adapted and new vocabulary, and enriching the content with 32 images that visually immerse readers in the Dhanggati culture.
Amanda Lissarrague’s research is based on the recordings of Dhanggati Elders, written historical records and the knowledge of Dhanggati people today. The first edition of this book was published in 2007 and has been widely used in language learning in the valley since that time. This second edition has the features of the first, including the stories.
