Gumbaynggirr Giingana Freedom School (GGFS) is currently recruiting 2 x suitably qualified teachers to deliver our unique and exciting curriculum.

Salary and benefits

Salary range of full time role $78,085 – $110,276 + superannuation based on skills and experience. As an employee of the schools’ proprietor Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation (BMNAC), you will have access to salary packaging benefits of an additional $16k taxfree per annum.

 

About our School

The GGFS officially opened in 2022 with a K-2 class. The GGFS is located at Coffs Harbour TAFE’s Glenreagh Street Campus. In 2023, the GGFS will expand to K- 4 with approximately 55 children, eventually growing to K-6 in 2024. The GGFS has a focus on Gumbaynggirr language and culture, quality teaching based on Gumbaynggirr values and philosophies, and strong community and parent engagement. The School is the first bilingual School of an Aboriginal language in NSW and is committed to striving for academic excellence among all students by developing and implementing innovative practices.

 

About the role

The roles will be required to co-deliver curriculum and learning in partnership with Gumbaynggirr language teachers (non-teacher trained). You will be supported by the Principal and the Schools proprietor, Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan Aboriginal Corporation’s (BMNAC), Executive Management team and staff group.

GGFS programs and curriculum areas will have a strong focus on:

  • Acquisition of Gumbaynggirr language.
  • The intergeneration transfer of Gumbaynggirr cultural knowledge so that our children are “Two Paths Strong” – strong in education and strong in culture.
  • Aboriginal pedagogy and methods of learning centre on country, language, culture and elders’ wisdom.
  • Multi sensory, hands on learning experiences.

The School is an extension of the Gumbaynggirr community, and there is an expectation of high level community consultation and engagement. The School will incorporate Aboriginal Perspectives across all Key Learning Areas.

We are seeking motivated and highly skilled professionals who value the importance of language, culture, country, and wisdom as the key foundations to making our children “Gumbaynggirr daari” – Gumbaynggirr strong!

Teachers will be supported to undertake professional development to learn the Gumbaynggirr language as well as implementing creative methods to support immersive spaces for Gumbaynggirr language acquisition. GGFS is the primary strategy to reawaken our Gumbaynggirr language to again be spoken as a first language.

 

Selection criteria

Please submit your EOI by submitting a CV and a cover letter (no more than 3 pages) outlining:

  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and research instruction that is tailored to individual student needs, particularly in the areas of reading and writing. Including the ability to harness Gumbaynggirr/Aboriginal perspectives.
  • Demonstrated excellence in classroom practice and the proven ability to use data to develop and deliver high quality, differentiated teaching and learning programs in numeracy that are inclusive of Gumbaynggirr/Aboriginal perspectives.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a team, including with Gumbaynggirr Language teachers to create rich learning experiences and immersive spaces to facilitate Gumbaynggirr Language acquisition.
  • Proven ability to use innovative strategies to build strong relationships with and engage families and wider community in the schooling environment
